MATHEMATICS DEPARTMENT:
The mathematics Department at Lynn English High School is very proud to announce the results of American Mathematics Competition, a national test, administered by the Mathematics Association of America. On February 10, 2004 ten sophomores: Chris Bernes, Meggan Birmingham, Konstantin Cheyshvili, Arastun Efendiyir, Ashley Garuti, Kimberly Hartshorn, Jacob Kardenetz, Diana Keefe, Anna Proshko and Nicole Scully., participated in the Grade 10 national exam. Nicole Scully was recognized as the top scorer at LEHS. Seven Juniors: Shawn Cogan, Marki Conway, Zach Conway, Eric Destefano, Alex Forti, Elen Harutyuinyan, and John Wood, along with thirteen seniors: Jocelyn Bourgeois, Jennie D'Entremont, Aleksey Grokhotov, Denny Huynh, Samantha Knight, Michelle Kurkul, Marissa Long, Jessica Loud, Sambo Nhin, Tiffany Oliver, Jacqueline Olsen, Jannie Patten and Sheila Sao competed on the Grade 12 exam. Named to the LEHS team were the three top scorers: John Wood, Sambo Nhin and Aleksey Grokhotov. For the second year in a row, John Wood, a junior, was top scorer on the Grade 12 exam and he has been awarded a medal by the MAA. The Mathematics Department is pleased to announce an additional Honors Course to be offered in the fall of 2004, Honors Algebra 1. Based on the results of a city - wide test and the grade 8 mathematics teacher's recommendation, a student can be accepted into the honors program, in Grade 9, starting at the Algebra 1 level. Grade 8 students who have successfully completed the Algebra 1 course and met the above requirements will follow the traditional Honors program, starting with Honors Geometry in Grade 9. |
