World Languages - Methology

To achieve the goal of the Modern Language Program, the following methods are used:

•	A coordinated, spiraling textbook series which contains proficiency-based student activities, and emphasized the
cultural and literary importance of the language.

•	Alternative assessment which appeals to a variety of learning styles, are age appropriate, and allow for
open-ended and creative uses of the language. Skits, role-playing, projects, games, journals, student-made
videos, TV programs, and newspapers are encouraged.

•	Texts supported by workbooks, tapes/CDs, videos/discs, visuals, computer software, listening comprehension kits,
tests and supplemental readers and review books.

•	A minimal amount of English in the classroom. Students are encouraged to speak the language throughout the
program. Further practice is provided by the use of audio materials.

•	Media (magazines, newspapers, video/disks, TV shows) are integrated into the classroom.

•	Cultural knowledge enhanced by class projects, food days, holiday celebrations, field trips, involvement in
exchange programs, foreign travel, and activities of world languages clubs.

•	Interdisciplinary based units connecting language study to natural science, social studies, the arts and
	humanities.
