A Greeting From Our Principal

2007/2008

To Students, Parents and All School Personnel:

On February 28, 2000, I assumed the role of principal of English High School. At that time, I recognized that I could not execute the job alone, I requested your assistance and support. In the true spirit of co-operation and support, you graciously stepped forward and complied. Thank you for your support. It has paid off. Together, we have made a significant difference.

When I assumed leadership of the school, we set our priorities which included continued progress in the building construction. We are pleased to state that we have a beautiful and safe facility, and we are extremely proud of all the improvements. We also recognized the importance of supporting those students who have struggled with passing the MCAS tests. Our staff continues to design and implement programs that develop those necessary skills needed for academic success. This past year we once again made AYP (adequate yearly progress), and we have been selected as one of thirty-eight schools in the state to receive the distinct honor as a 2007 Commonwealth Compass School. This award is presented to those schools that support significant and continuous improvement, and we are very proud of this accomplishment. Together we have made a significant differnce.

We have also concentrated on increasing our student's enrollment and the teaching staff, and we have worked diligently on improving the school climate to ensure that our entire population feels safe and comfortable in a positive learning environment tthat stresses academic and interscholastic activities. Thus far, we have made significant progress in meeting those goals.

However, our job is far from complete. As we continue to strive for excellence, it is my intention to keep you fully informed of the progress of all of our goals. During the forthcoming school year, we will hold Open Houses so that you can see the improvements in our physical plant, and also we wish to provide an opportunity to visit with the teachers who serve your children. We intend to continue our L.E.H.S. and guidance newsletters, and my door is always open to you. Please check our website to obtain additional methods for communication and imparting information.

Please remember that the summer reading program is vital to academic success, and is taken very seriously by the staff. Your children have received their summer reading list, and we have a copy of the requirements posted on the website. (MCAS 2007 Summer Reading Requirements)

I urge you as parents to encourage your children to read. Literacy is vital to success in life, and we promise that we will continue to do our part to improve our curriculum, our instruction and our programs. Together we will continue to improve. Together!

Thank you for continued patience, understanding and cooperation.

Sincerely,
Andrew M. Fila
