Lynn English High School is proud to announce the expansion of our Academy to include new certification programs in Web Design and A+ Computer Maintenance and Troubleshooting in addition to our established Networking certification program. All three programs are considered “corporate education courses” and not scaled down to the high school level. The Academy students are committed to successful certification preparation by accessing the curriculum from both school and home on a daily basis.
All three certification programs include an on-line curriculum with supportive materials such as Companion Guides for additional content readings and practice assessments, Lab Companions for hands-on labs, analysis and summations, Engineering Journals used for reflective writings and additional assessments and Project Workbooks to incorporate newly gained knowledge into completing ‘real-life’ projects. Then, students are prepared for the online chapter test.
Portfolios of each student’s work are kept on display in the Academy classroom and parents and students can view test grades in the on-line student gradebook from any computer. When students complete all requirements of their respective certification program, in-house internships will be available which will include working with teachers to create homework websites for various departments, allowing twenty-four hour a day access to homework and class assignments or assisting teachers with computer related problems.
Hewlett Packard Essentials Program

Our “Technology Interns”, alias “Interns”, are providing technical assistance to teachers throughout the building via software and hardware installation, computer troubleshooting and maintenance and software tutorials. The group created a help desk for all faculty and staff and designed all documents used while completing their “field work”.
In addition, the Interns must complete on-line chapters, hands-on labs, study guides and worksheets before completing an on-line chapter exam. Thanks to Mr. Ralph Nelson, three of these students landed paid internships in the M.I.S. Department of the Daily Item of Lynn. Lastly, many of the Interns are also enrolled in either the Web Design certification program or second year of the Cisco Networking certification program or both. What a course load for a high school student!
Adobe Web Design

Students enrolled in our new Adobe Web Design certification program also utilize an on-line curriculum, on-line chapter testing and on-line gradebook as well as a Companion Guide with additional content readings and test preparation and a Course Journal and Workbook utilized for hands-on web design labs, tutorials and projects. Curriculum software includes Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere, Adobe Live-Motion, Adobe ImageReady and Adobe Illustrator . Students are also being taught HyperText Markup Language (HTML), which will give experience in hand-coding web pages for more control over the design. In addition, advanced students are completing prototypes of homework web sites for various departments, which we hope to make accessible in the spring to all Lynn English faculty, staff, students and parents.
Cisco Networking – Year 1

First year students in our two year Cisco Networking program are preparing for the Certified Cisco Networking Associate (C.C.N.A.) certification. Students utilize an on-line curriculum and supportive materials such as the First Year Cisco Networking Companion Guide for further content investigation, the Engineering Journal with vocabulary, content questions and practice tests and the Lab Companion assisting students with hands on networking labs and analysis. Students design networks through the use of Cisco Network Designer software, build network cables from scratch, learn to utilize network analysis software tools and become adept at using multi-meters and cable-meters for cable and jack testing.
Cisco Networking - Year 2

After graduating from Semesters I and II and receiving certificates from Mr. John Chambers, C.E.O. of Cisco Corporation, these students have dug into the second year curriculum with the goal of completing the Certified Cisco Networking Associate (C.C.N.A.) certification preparation requirements. At the completion of Semester II, students completed a hands-on skills exam in which they designed one network spread across five cities and programmed the accompanying network devices. Now they will build on their experiences by being introduced to ISDN services, network management, wide area networks (WANs) and Novell servers. Hands-on labs include programming five Cisco routers and two Cisco switches across a wide geographical area. Students utilize the on-line curriculum, on-line testing and on-line gradebook as well as the Second Year Companion Guide, Second Year Engineering Journal, Second Year Lab Companion and instructor supplied study guides. The year will end with a C.C.N.A. review of all topics covered in the two year curriculum and multiple practice exams in preparation of the CCNA certification exam.
